about us
co-led through years of growth.
Toa Tumaini Foundation was created to support local Tanzanian efforts to better the lives of vulnerable children in rural Tanzania, and we continue today.
Co-Founders Carles and Kelsey met in 2011 when Kelsey traveled to Tanzania for the very first time on a volunteer trip. Carles was a local volunteer who partnered with international volunteers like Kelsey. She was volunteering in a nursery classroom in town. Kelsey’s time in Tanzania had a lasting impact: witnessing children who had a deep desire to learn but lacked the resources to attend or succeed in school left a mark she couldn’t shake.
Meanwhile… Carles had a deep love for his community and a passion for helping local children thrive. Known for his warm greetings and playful jokes, he was a familiar face in the villages, often chatting with every child he passed. Long before he opened his first school, children affectionately called him “mwalimu”, Swahili for teacher.
Their shared love for kids in Tanzania solidified their partnership, and TTF was born. Over the years, TTF has supported a growing number of students, expanded into a larger rented school building to accommodate them, and ultimately purchased land to build a preschool.
Through all the ups and downs, the goal has remained the same: help kids in Tanzania thrive today so they can dream for tomorrow, starting with education.

The journey
It has been a long journey to get here, but thanks to generous donors like you,
we have been able to invest more in our students and community each year.
Making an impact is simple:
1. Decide to support
the education of Tanzanian youth.
2. Choose to join
the Village or make a one-time donation.
3. See the difference
and feel great about your gift.
a shared purpose: Children in Tanzania
Children in Tanzania want to learn, and with a young population, the need for schools only grows. But school isn’t a given for kids in Tanzania.
Many face barriers like:
- Distance from their home to school
- School costs (supplies, uniforms, etc.)
- Large student-to-teacher ratios
- Household responsibilities, like caring for younger siblings or helping with chores while parents work
Nonetheless, students and families in Tanzania remain hardworking and determined. As long as our communities desire quality education, we’ll be there to support it. We are honored to walk alongside Tanzanian communities as their kids thrive and dream of tomorrow.
A tomorrow that includes:
- Confident kids
- Students graduating from college or trade school
- Children who become adults pursuing long-term careers
- A growing Tanzanian economy
- Families that are breaking cycles of poverty
working together makes us better.
We believe that partnerships lead to success and sustainability, and we pride ourselves on the “togetherness” we have built internally, within our organization, and externally, with our native partners and community members.
TTF was co-created many years ago as an answer to Carles’ dream. Our programs are community-inspired and community-led, always prioritizing the aspirations, needs, and culture of those we serve.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to join our family of world changers today.
